An East Clare Councillor claims the reopening of the Crusheen railway station is vital to accommodate the continued expansion of the region.

A delegation of local representatives from the electoral area held discussions with senior members of Ianróid Eireann this week with a view to resuming operations at the site.

The station at Crusheen ceased to provide regular passenger services in 1976, while rail freight and auxiliary relief services came to an end there in the mid 1990s.

Maghera based Fianna Fáil Councillor, Pat Hayes says the station has the potential to greatly increase the accessibility of academic & employment opportunities.
