Clare Childcare Centres Fighting For Survival

A Clare Creche owner claims radical measures are required to save an essential service on its knees.

The Federation of Early Childcare Providers held an emergency meeting of local members in Shannon last night to address urgent concerns over remuneration, recruitment and retention in the industry.

Providers have been set in a fee freeze since 2017 under a state funding directive, while in 2021 Clare’s one hundred private facilities recorded an average staff turnover rate of 20%.

 

Noel Mulderrig who will be closing the doors of Kidz Haven in Shannon after 20 years of service next June says the sector cannot continue burning the candle at both ends.
