A Clare Retained Firefighter claims the remuneration measures put forward by the labour court won’t be enough to solve the recruitment crisis in the sector.

The arbitrator has issued a document with ten recommendations to be examined by SIPTU and the Local Government Management Agency in a bid to find a solution to the on-going industrial dispute.

Among the reported recommendations is an increase of between 24-32% to the annual €8,000 retainer payment.

Killaloe Fire Station Shop Steward, Edward Moloney believes, however, the sum won’t be enough to attract new blood with the cost of living in the modern era.
