Clare Women’s Network Member Says Politicians Need To Act Following Ashling Murphy Death

A member of the Clare Women’s Network says the entire culture of Irish life needs to change following the death of Ashling Murphy.

The 23-year-old, who graduated from Mary Immaculate College just three months ago, was attacked and killed while going for a run along the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore last Wednesday.

Gardai are hoping to question a suspect in her murder as early as today – a person of interest is understood to still be receiving hospital treatment for a number of injuries and will need to be assessed before he can be questioned.

Ashling Murphy’s death has led to calls for ‘zero tolerance’ of violence against women and hundreds of people across this county have been among those paying tribute to her at vigils held over the weekend.
