Frustration has been expressed in Quilty after controversial plans for a mast extension there were approved by Clare County Council.

Ontower Ireland Ltd is to replace the 12 metre structure at Ballymakea, close to the the village, with an 18 metre tower carrying telecommunications and broadband equipment.

The planning permission has been granted under seven separate conditions, with a significant number of submissions against the plans having been considered by the local authority.

Fianna Fail Councillor Cillian Murphy is concerned that the move may lead to future mast extensions in West Clare and other areas of the county.
