125 complaints were made to the office of the Ombudsman from Clare residents last year.

Its annual report outlines how it received over 3,600 complaints from across the country, the highest level in a decade.

Last year’s level of complaints to the office of the Ombudsman were up by nearly 10% when compared with 2018.

There was also a high level of complaints from Clare – 125 in total, the fifth highest of any county.

However, as the report outlines, much of this is as a direct result of an outreach event held in Ennis last September, in which ombudsman Peter Tyndall and his team took part in a number of public engagements, and local training initiatives.

29 complaints were about Clare County Council, and six of these were upheld.

The report also includes details of a number of individual cases, including one of a Clare student who contacted them about issues regarding her grant application to SUSI.

Negotiations which followed saw her gain an additional payment of nearly €3,000, to which she was entitled.
