The Minister for Transport has defended the National Transport Authority’s handling of its ongoing row with Clare Bus.

The issue of the local transport company, which is facing an uncertain future, was raised by Clare TDs in the Dáil yesterday, ahead of a meeting between them and the NTA next week.

The Clare Bus operator lost its contract to provide the local link service in March, when a new contract could not be agreed between both sides.

Taking questions on the issue, Minister Shane Ross stated that while Clare Accessible Transport was initially the preferred bidder to continue to operate routes locally, a new operator was appointed when no agreement was concluded.

Clare Bus have previously argued that the contract could not be signed because of monies owed to it by the NTA.
