A 3.5 million euro settlement secured by the DAA over Ryanair’s breach of its five year contract at Shannon has been welcomed as a victory for the mid west airport.

The airport authority took the High Court case against the low cost carrier for its decision to scale back operations in 2009 slashing two thirds of its flights from Shannon blaming the travel tax and airport charges.

Management at Shannon Airport has confirmed that the case has been settled but a spokesperson told Clare FM that they had no further comment to make on the matter.

Shannon Independent Councillor Patricia McCarthy says its a real victory for the airport and the Mid West which was badly hit by the decision of the low cost carrier to withdraw flights
