Clare’s dole queues fell by over 400 people last year, despite a sharp rise in the numbers signing on in December.

Figures released by the CSO puts the numbers claiming some form of job seekers benefit in the county at 9,965 at the end of December, down from nearly 10,400 at the same date twelve months previously.

However, an extra 233 people joined Clare’s dole queues last month, with rises recorded in all parts of the county.

Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn feels the county has fared badly in receiving it’s share of inward investment in recent times, but is hopeful Shannon Airport will help turn this around in the year ahead.
