The Mid-West has seen the largest annual fall in the numbers on the live register of any of Ireland’s regions.

While 36,500 people in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary continue to claim some form of benefit, the number represents an annual fall of 4.6%.

On a national basis, figures released by the CSO today show another slight decrease in the number of people on the Live Register but the rate of unemployment in December remained unchanged at 14.6 per cent.

Full statistics for Clare should be known next week.
