The Department of Integration has confirmed it’s responding to a number of accommodation offers in Shannon.

The information comes as a result of a parliamentary question from Meelick Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe this week on whether any properties in Shannon or Newmarket-on-Fergus are being considered.

The Department says discussions with the Shannon providers are at an early stage and “a full assessment of any property must take place before it can be deemed suitable”.

The Department also claims no offers of accommodation have been made from providers in Newmarket-on-Fergus, but says that “in the event an offer is made in the future in respect of a site, it may be assessed for use”.

Full Response from the Department of Integration

Ireland is now accommodating over 102,000 people between those fleeing Ukraine and International Protection applicants. This compares with over 19,000 at the end of December 2022.

This includes over 75,000 Ukrainian people who have sought accommodation from the State and over 27,000 International Protection applicants currently in International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) accommodation.

IPAS is responding to a number of offers of accommodation in Shannon, Co. Clare. Discussions with the provider(s) are at an early stage, and a full assessment of any property must take place before it can be deemed suitable.

Should a property be deemed suitable for accommodation, the Community Engagement Team will provide detailed information in direct engagements with elected representatives in advance.

There are currently no offers of accommodation made in respect to  Newmarket-on-Fergus. As with all locations, in the event an offer is made in the future in respect of a site, it may be assessed for use.

The Deputy may wish to be aware that the Community Engagement Team has been established within my Department which stands ready to respond to queries of this nature, and they may be contacted directly at [email protected]
