A disqualified driver has been taken off the roads of South East Clare after failing a roadside drug test last night.
During a patrol in Shannon, the Clare Roads Policing Unit pulled over a Mazda 3 hatchback after the vehicle triggered an alert for no insurance on the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system.
Gardaí soon discovered the motorist was in the midst of serving a twelve year driving ban, before they conducted a drug wipe, in which the driver tested positive for Cannabis.
The driver was subsequently arrested and the car was seized with a court appearance to follow at a later date.
