The Transport Minister says his 'explicit objective' is to the do the right thing for Ireland when it comes to any potential sale of Aer Lingus.

Paschal Donoghue will brief cabinet tomorrow on the latest bid from the owner of British Airways which values the former Irish flag carrier at around €1.3 billion.

It's the third takeover approach from IAG.

Earlier, Clare TDs from across the political divide re-iterated their concerns that any sale could diminish Shannon’s links with Heathrow, and ultimately hurt the Mid-West economy.

Labour’ Michael McNamara says he would only support a sale in the event that it included a cast-iron legal guarantee that this could not occur, though Fianna Fáil’s Timmy Dooley  says the government should rule out any sale altogether.
