DPP Files Appeal Against Cathal Crotty Sentence

The Director of Public Prosecutions has filed an appeal against the sentence handed down to Cathal Crotty for an unprovoked attack on Natasha O’Brien, in Limerick city two years ago.

Last month, the 22-year-old soldier, from Ardnacrusha, Co Clare, was spared a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to the assault.

The decision led to nationwide protests.

The sentence will now be appealed by the DPP on the grounds of ‘undue leniency’.
