Over €170m Spent By Consumers In Ennis In 2022

Over €170m was spent by customers in Ennis throughout 2022.

A new analysis by AIB and the Ennis 2040 DAC shows, though, that annual spending in the county town is increasing at a slower rate than the national average.

The AIB spend insights for 2022 are based on over 160,000 transactions which took place in Ennis over the year.

According to the report, the final amount spent in the county town was €173m and €360m throughout Clare.

AIB says that customer spending increased by 17% nationwide over the year , but by just 11% in Ennis.

The analysis also shows the Ennis economy is primarily driven by county Clare residents, who account for 80% of spending in the town.

32% of spending in the town originates from Ennis, Tulla and Kilrush account for 5% each, with customers from Clarecastle, Quin, Lahinch, Kildysart, Lissycasey, Shannon and Kilmaley making up one-fifth of spending in Ennis between them.

Visitors from Limerick and Galway accounted for just 4% of the overall spend in Ennis in 2022 and the average spent by tourists and commuters came to just €72 per person.

The analysis also indicates a reliance on daytime activity in Ennis, with just 5% of spending occurring after 8pm.

In terms of consumer habits in Ennis, 23% of all spending was on Groceries, 12% in service stations , with Restaurants, Hotels, Pharmacies, and Clothing accounting for 4%, 3% and 2% of spending respectively.
