East Clare residents to raise concerns over Shannon extraction plan

 

Plans to pump thousands of gallons of water from Lough Derg to service Dublin householders comes under the spotlight today.

Members of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Environment travel to Terryglass today to see first hand the proposed extraction point up from Mountshannon.

The plan would see the extracted water stored at a reservoir in the Midlands for use by the Greater Dublin Area, however there’s deep concerns about the impact the process will have on Lough Derg

Some feel if the project goes ahead it will adversely affect tourism and other water related activities in East Clare, among them Mayor of Clare Councillor Pat Hayes who will be join a group of locals who will meet the committee
