Ennis Businesses to hold Regular Meetings with Town Council

Representatives of the business community in Ennis are to hold regular meetings with the local town council in a new bid to beat the economic downturn.

Following a protest of around 200 businesses outside Ennis Town Council offices recently, both sides met in private yesterday, where issues like commercial rates, parking charges and measures to attract shoppers were discussed.

An agreement has now been reached on regular meetings in future, though no immediate changes are likely in the council’s commercial rates structure or parking in Ennis Town Centre.

Mayor of Ennis Peter Considine says plans for greater consultation will see the Town Council assist the business community through the recession, and local charges may be looked at in the future.
