An Ennis Councillor is calling on the Minister for Health to investigate the possibility of creating a ‘Smart ID’ card for elderly people.
The proposed card would mirror that of a public service card and would contain a chip that would store vital medical information.

Details of a person’s name, date of birth, medical history, allergies and next of kin could then be accessed by medical professionals in emergency scenarios.
Fine Gael Councillor from Ennis Mary Howard believes embracing this technology could lead to better outcomes.
