It's claimed the €2.50 prescription charge will drive vulnerable Clare residents into hospitals.
The comments were made by Ennis Councillor Paul O'Shea as he called for charges paid by medical card holders for their medicines to be dropped, and the issue is to be raised with Clare TD's and all of Ireland's local authorities following unanimous agreement by Ennis Town Council.
