Ennis Councillors suggest new litter plan to stop dumping in town

It’s claimed litter problems in Ennis could be alleviated if the town’s residents were given access to a local drop-off point for rubbish

While Ennis continues to perform well in the national Tidy Towns competitions, this week’s Irish Business  Against Litter survey dropped Clare’s County Town 11 spots in it’s national rankings to 27th, and highlighted a number of areas of concern.

Local representatives insist Ennis does not have a significant litter problem, but some are now calling for a site in the town to be used as a point where rubbish can be left, and then disposed of, for a small fee.

Council officials say such a facility would require the approval of the Environmental Protection Agency, but Independent Councillor Tommy Brennan feels there is a demand for it in Ennis.
