Ennis Garage Cites Recruitment Challenges And Burnout Among Reasons For Closure

Recruitment difficulties, burnout and a struggle to achieve work-life balance are just some of the reasons a much-loved Ennis garage’s owners have decided to close their doors.

The proprietors of EMC Autos Limited have taken the difficult decision to put down their tools for the last time later this month after serving the county for 15 years.

After meeting in Australia and working in a variety of jobs, Eoghain and Michelle McMahon opened EMC Autos Limited on the Quin Road in 2009.

The business operated in the unit now occupied by the Wurth Trade Store for three years before moving across the road to the Clare Marts Complex where its operated ever since.

Now, after 15 proud years of looking after the vehicles of the population of this county and beyond, the husband-and-wife duo have announced they’ll cease trading on October 25th.

Michelle says difficulties recruiting mechanics have put significant strain on them in recent years, and although the Government appears to be addressing issue, it seems to be too little, too late.

Although the friendly faces of the McMahons will be missed by their loyal customer base, motorists can take comfort in the knowledge that a new garage will open on the site very soon.

On November 4th, Glenny Auto Works will begin operating out of building being vacated by EMC, with local man Eamon Glenny at the helm.

Michelle has spoken of the challenges she and her husband have encountered in running the business while also trying to look after their family and their health.

With the clock winding down until they pull down the shutter for the final time, she says that although there’s obvious sadness, she’s looking forward to what lies ahead.
