Ennis-Limerick line to be closed until March

Irish Rail says the Ennis-Limerick rail line won't re-open before March.

Slow drainage in the Ballycarr area has led to the line becoming submerged in 90 centimetres of water, following heavy rainfall over the months of December and early January.

Works have already been carried out on the line but the rail company says ten million euro in funding is required to put permanent measures in place, as part of a wider flood relief scheme.

Spokesperson Barry Kenny says they're willing to work with the OPW and the local authority to try and find a solution to the problem which would protect residential dwellings near-by.
