The Mayor of Ennis has called on the government to continue to provide funding for Shannon Airport after it’s declared independent from the DAA.
Councillor Peter Considine, a member of the Airport’s Marketing Consultative Committee, feels funding needs to be given to Shannon in order to cover the costs surrounding maintenance and emergency cover.
Shannon is a designated emergency landing site, but this carries with it a considerable cost.
As a result Mayor Considine feels some form of financial support will still be required once Shannon is declared to be independent.
