The Mayor of Ennis says the awarding of the title of ‘Ireland’s Friendliest Place’ to the town is a timely boost for retailers ahead of the Christmas period.

The county town beat off competition from Ashbourne and Moynalty in Meath, Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim, and Monaghan town to claim the accolade over the weekend.

It comes hot on the heels of Ennis being recognised for its age friendly initiatives earlier this month.

Mayor of the Ennis Municipal District, Fianna Fail Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy feels it was a well deserved award for the town.
