Ennis Woman To Provide Dental Care For Children Of Rural Nepal

A Clare dentistry student set to embark on a 7,000km trip to provide essential treatments to impoverished children in rural Nepal, believes an increased number of training places are needed to tackle shortages in the profession at home.

Ruth Gleeson from Ennis is in the final year of her course at University College Cork and along with 6 others will now participate in the institution’s annual Dental Outreach Programme in South Asia.

The voluntary programme will last for two weeks and offers free oral hygiene instructions, extractions, fillings and preventative therapies to people in need.

Ruth says there’s plenty of interest in the profession at home, bust says points and places are a big barrier in Ireland.
