The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment has requested a meeting with Aer Lingus following it’s decision to close its cargo base at Shannon Airport.

The airline has confirmed it will cease operations by the end of this year after a review found its business model for cargo services at Shannon had become “unsustainable”.

The fate of 18 employees currently hangs in the balance and it’s understood the office of Enterprise Minister Peter Burke has yet to be informed of any planned redundancies.

Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway believes the lack of clarity delivered by Aer Lingus has been unacceptable.
