Gardaí are urging people to report online scams after a family were conned into paying for accommodation during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The extended family of thirteen lost in excess of 1,000 euro after being duped by an advertisement online.

Gardaí have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into a scam relating to accommodation during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

In advance of the festival, the Fleadh Cheoil Committee provided a registered list of accomodation for anyone travelling here, but it has since transpired that additional accommodation was advertised on other websites.

In at least three case, this accomodation turned out to be fake, posted by con-artists looking to exploit visitors.

An extended family of thirteen arrived at a home near Ennis last night, having paid out in excess of 1000 euro in advance to these conmen.

The scam is similar to one which caught out students seeking accomodation for the upcoming college semester and Clare's Crime Prevention Officer is urging victims to come forward.

Sergeant Joe Downey says that in some cases, people may be able to get their money back.
