The Jobs Minister has played down fears of a revolt in Fine Gael against the government’s new abortion legislation.

Richard Bruton’s expressed confidence that TDs in his own party would view the new bill as a sensible reaction to a difficult issue.

Earlier the Europe Minister Lucinda Creighton defended the decision of some of her party colleagues to attend the pro-life rally in Dublin at the weekend.

But Jobs Minister Richard Bruton is confident that once the legislation on abortion is published, his party colleagues will support it.
