A Spanish fisherman injured on board a trawler off the West Coast of Clare died in hospital in Cork a few hour later.
The Shannon Coastguard helicopter was scrambled to scene 120 miles off Loophead at 11 am yesterday following reports that a crew member on board the Spanish vessel "Nuevo- Mugardo " had sustained serious head injuries.
The 54 year old was winched from the boat amid poor weather conditions and airlifted by Rescue 115 to Cork University Hospital but passed away from his injuries several hours later
