Up to 400,000 people are due to descend on Ennis for the traditional music festival which gets underway on Sunday.

There'll be a number of dedicated Fleadh venues as well as alterations to road access and parking.

The countdown is on to the biggest event Ennis has seen in many years and months of planning is now coming to fruition.

Over the coming days, the town will be transformed ahead of the landmark event which is expected to attract up to 400,000 people here.

A robust medical plan has been put in place involving on-site volunteers, the civil defence and medical practicioners, while a medical centre will be based at the Maria Assumpta Hall on Station Road.

An event control centre will also be in operation at Áras Contae an Chláir on New Road and Ambulance Service personnel, Gardaí and the Fleadh Event Controller will be permanently based there.

Local authority event controller, Noeleen Fitzgerald insists that in the event of an emergency, there will be cover.

A large security operation has been put in place for the week including 80 independent security personnel.

Additional Gardaí have been drafted in from across the Clare Garda Division, providing a visible presence throughout the town, while there will also be plain-clothes Gardaí on the streets.

CCTV footage will be monitored around the clock at the Fleadh Control Centre but Superintendent Brendan McDonagh is urging everyone to be security conscious.

The event is expected to generate 40 million euro for the local economy and organisers are advising people that Ennis is open for business throughout the festival.

Full details of the Fleadh are available online at fleadhcheoil.ie or at the Fleadh Information Office in the market.
