A former County Councillor believes it’s crucial that road safety education becomes a core part of the school curriculum.

It comes as a safe driving programme is set to be rolled out in September for all Transition Year students and will focus on preparing students for learning to drive while educating them on the dangers of unsafe behaviour on the road.

119 people have died on Irish roads so far this year, which is 14 more than this time last year.

Former Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan says young people need to understand the dangers associated with driving.
