Tributes are being paid following the passing of Clare’s longest serving local representative

Lissycasey native and former Fianna Fáil councillor PJ Kelly passed away earlier today.

He served on Clare County Council over five decades, and only retired for the role this summer.

PJ survived by his Wife Maura and Children Barry John, Aoife and Alma, Grandchildren, Wider family and large circle of friends.

Clare Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe, who worked alongside PJ during his time with the Council, says PJ Kelly wasn’t just a great politician but was a neighbour and a good friend.

As well as this, Cathal described PJ as an incredible public representative for West Clare over decades and said every speech he made in the Council chamber was memorable and new entrants to politicians would do well to study PJ’s ability to say everything with a loaded one-liner that would invariably make the newspaper headlines later in the week.
