Emergency services were called out to tackle a blaze on board a boat in West Clare last evening.

The Doolin Unit of the Coast Guard along with Clare Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a fire on board about in Liscannor harbour shortly before 6 o’clock last evening.

There were two men on board the vessel which had arrived in the county from Cork.

The fire was confined to the engine and was quickly brought under control by one unit of the Fire service from Ennistymon

No one was injured in the incident and no significant damage was caused to the vessel.

Earlier, two people were rescued after their boat began drifting dangerously close to the cliffs at Hags Head west of Liscannor.

The Doolin Coast Guard team, which had already been on a safety patrol in the area, was sent to the scene. They located the stricken vessel and took it under tow to Liscannor Harbour.

Neither person on board was harmed.
