Cystic Fibrosis Ireland has now lent its calls for the government to approve funding for a new state of the art unit in University Hospital Limerick.

The organisation says the facility could be made operational within weeks if the Health minister heeded their calls for him to staff the facility which has cost five and a half million euro to construct.

A substantial amount of the cost was raised through fundraising in the MidWest, by groups including TLC4CF.

The Department of Health has told Clare FM that it anticipates the facility opening on a phased basis.
