Funchion Leapfrogs Clare’s Michael McNamara In Latest Ireland South Count

Counting is due to resume in the Ireland South constituency this morning.

Billy Kelleher continues to close in on the quota, while Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion moved into contention after picking up almost 16,000 votes from the elimination of her party colleague Paul Gavan.

She leapfrogged Clare Independent Michael McNamara in the 16th count last night, but the Scariff-based TD is currently following closely behind, with only 1,127 votes separating the pair.

Independent Ireland candidate and former Cratloe-based ICSA General Secretary, Eddie Punch was eliminated last evening in the 14th count.

Counting resumes at 9am this morning.
