Clare County Council is to seek funding to replace the deck of Latoon Bridge in Clarecastle.
A 3.5 tonne weight limit for traffic travelling over the bridge was lifted earlier this year, however a restriction remains in place and inspections have revealed that extensive repair works are needed.
The Council is targetting a start date of Autumn 2017 for the repairs, which will take between 4 and 6 months to complete.
Clarecastle Councillor Paul Murphy hopes the works will resolve the issues at the bridge once and for all.
