The Irish Aviation Authority has expressed concern at the fall off in flights from Shannon airport in January.

New figures for air traffic last month show the number of flights through the Mid West Airport was down 23.8 percent compared to January 2010.

It comes as management at Shannon Airport had in recent weeks expressed optimism about a turnaround at Shannon Airport after commercial flights in the Mid West fell by over 30 percent overall in 2010.

Today’s figures from the IAA also show that traffic at Cork Airport fell 6.9 per cent in January while  Dublin Airport recorded an increase – but only by 0.7 per cent.
