Garda Killed In Louth Shooting

Two people – including a garda – have been shot dead in Co Louth.

The incident happened at a house on the Cooley Peninsula shortly after six o’clock this evening. 

The scene has been sealed off and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

It’s understood gardaí were responding to reports of a domestic incident at the house near Omeath on the Cooley Peninsula when the shooting took place. 

The male garda was shot dead – while another man was also killed – and a third person was left seriously injured and has been taken to hospital. 

The scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination – and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified. 

Gardaí at Dundalk are now leading the investigation into the incident.

While the Garda Representative Association says it’s shocked and saddened by the news – which is the deepest fear of every police family. 

GRA President Dermot O’Brien says “At this time of distress, the garda family will be doing everything possible to support the late garda’s relatives and loved ones, friends and colleagues.”
