Gormely indicates support for Limerick boundary changes

 

The Environment Minister has indicated there’s a strong case for changing Limerick’s boundaries but has stopped short of stating that this should include an extension into Clare.

Around 3000 residents in Shannon Banks and Westbury will be affected if the government decides to adopt the recommendations made by the committee headed up by Denis Brosnan and they now plan to take to the streets to highlight their opposition.

Speaking in the Dáil last night Clare’s Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley and Fine Gael’s Pat Breen joined forces to condemn the report’s findings stating that the move would not help boost the economic fortunes of the region as a whole, nor did they believe they would create one extra job in the Mid West.

Speaking on behalf of the Environment Minister John Gormley – Junior Minister Sean Connick stated that John Gormley would bring the report before government as soon as possible but that the recommendations presents a strong case for action
