Government under increased pressure over SUSI ahead of new college term

It’s claimed government efforts to resolve ongoing delays in the third level grants system have not been enough to ease what’s been described as a ‘crisis’.

Newly released figures show nearly 1,000 Clare students were still waiting for their grant applications to be processed at the beginning of this month, more than half of all those who’d sought money.

Of the 805 people who had their documents processed, only two-thirds had been paid moneys by SUSI, the new centralised system to deal with grant applications.

Clare Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley is calling on the government to invest more money into the system to help hard-pressed students in the county.
