Half of Clare homes have a Building Energy Rating of ‘D’ or lower.
New figures released by the Central Statistics Office show just 4 percent of dwellings in this county have the highest possible ‘A’ rating.
The CSO looked at more than 24,000 domestic buildings across Clare in their latest analysis.
It found the average age of a home in Clare is 33 years old which is in line with national figures.
991 homes here were given an ‘A’ rating, which is the highest possible on the energy efficiency scale.
A further 9 percent of homes across the Banner have been labelled with a rating between B1 and B3, while 36 percent of houses in Clare are considered between C1 and C3.
However, that leaves another 50 percent of homes in this county with a rating of ‘D’ or lower.
8 percent of houses, or around 1 in 12, have the lowest possible grade of ‘G’ attached to them, with a further 5 percent being considered an ‘F’ standard dwelling.
While those numbers are expected to fall as Clare and other parts of the country continue towards more energy efficient homes, they are likely to provide cause for concern in some quarters.
