Head Of Barnardos Calls For More Investment In Child Protection

The head of Barnardos in Ireland says there must be further investment in child protection services.

Fergus Finlay says it would be preferable to see better funding for social workers than to try and pick up the pieces after abuse or neglect cases.

It comes after a 39 year old woman was jailed for four years yesterday after being convicted of 29 charges of cruelty and neglect of her children.

Child protection services became involved with the Galway family in 2006 but some of the most serious allegations didn't come to light until five years later.
