Almost 7,000 children are on waiting lists for healthcare across the UL Hospitals Group.
Figures obtained by Fianna Fail show the 6,675 children are among almost 117,000 across the country, awaiting care at hospitals.
The Irish Hospital Consultants Association says the data reveals the ‘full extent of the problem’ which children and their families are experiencing across Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary in accessing timely hospital care.
But it says the figure doesn’t represent the full picture, as it doesn’t include children waiting for hospitals diagnostics such as MRI scans or radiology, as this data isn’t currently published by the HSE.
