A Clare member of the Regional Health Forum West believes a bid for funding to expand services at this region’s Medical Assessment Units will serve to alleviate the overcrowding crisis at the region’s main hospital.

The UL Hospitals Group has submitted a bid to the HSE National Acute Division for €5.2m for additional resources to increase staffing across the MAU’s at Ennis, Nenagh and St. John’s Hospitals.

The intention is to extend the operating hours in Limerick and Tipperary to 7 days a week, while the bid also includes permanent funding to secure extended hours and weekend service into the future in Ennis.

Kilkee Fianna Fáil Councillor Cillian Murphy says this latest development shows that management within the ULHG are listening to local representatives.
