A West Clare councillor says he expects further increased demand on ambulances services in that part of the county if a busy staycation season happens this summer.

Kilkee-based Fianna Fail representative Cillian Murphy is again raising concerns that ambulance services in the county had sometimes taken more than double the average time to arrive than elsewhere in Clare.

Correspondence from this week’s Regional Health Forum meeting revealed there was a total of 875 emergency callouts in West Clare last year, with the highest number of those coming in August.

Councillor Murphy says he’s hopeful resources are in place to cope with a potential increase in demand again this summer.
