It’s claimed a hero has fallen in Clare following the passing of a revered hurling legend, character and gentleman.

Cratloe’s Jackie O’Gorman who is regarded as one of the best ever defenders to pull on the Saffron and Blue jersey passed away peacefully on Monday.

O’Gorman made his intercounty debut in 1967 and would go on to form a starring role in Clare’s National League Triumphs over Kilkenny in 1977 and 1978 before rejoining the county set up as a selector from 1981 to 1986.

Jackie is survived by his wife Joan and daughters Mary, Angela, Jacqueline and Joanne and will be laid to rest following a funeral mass on Friday in Cratloe Church.

Fr Harry Bohan who managed Jackie at intercounty level, celebrated his wedding and will now celebrate Jackie’s funeral mass says he was one of those people in life you could truly rely on.
