A hiker is recovering in hospital after she suffered an injury in a fall on the coastal walking trail in North Clare this afternoon.
The woman was part of a group hiking the popular Burren Way trail between Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher.
The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was tasked at 12.58pm by watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard’s marine rescue coordination centre on Valentia Island in Kerry. The National Ambulance Service was also requested to attend the incident.
The casualty was located in an area not easily accessible by road vehicles so Doolin Coast Guard volunteers deployed their specialist all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to reach the scene.
The woman was being cared for by her fellow hikers when the Coast Guard team arrived. The casualty was transported by the ATV crew to the main road where National Ambulance Service paramedics were standing by to take her into their care.
It’s understood the woman suffered a lower leg injury after she slipped. She was transported to hospital for treatment.
