HIQA Inspection Finds Cratloe Nursing Home Not Compliant With Residents’ Assessment And Care

A HIQA inspection has found a south-east Clare nursing home did not have adequate records kept that outlined recent ailments of some of its residents.

The Health Information and Quality Authority has published its report of the inspection carried out in Cratloe Nusing Home on the 12th of June of this year.

The facility located in Gallow’s Hill in Cratloe provides 24-hour nursing care to up to 32 residents and on the day of the inspection, 28 residents were present.

In the centre’s prior inspection in February, it was judged to be either compliant or substantially compliant in 10 of the 11 areas assessed, while it was marked non-compliant in two areas.

In its latest inspection, the only area in which Cratloe Nursing Home was found not to be compliant was individualised assessment and care plan.

HIQA stated residents had access to GP services, to a range of health professionals and out-patient services and that pre-admission assessments were carried out for each resident.

It was deemed however that significant action was required to ensure that all residents residing in the centre had appropriate care plans in place to effectively guide care.

The report found that two residents with sacral wounds did not have wound care plans in place, while wound care plans for another resident did not contain details of their dressing regime.

It was also noted that the indication for the use of generic infection and Covid-19 protocols was not outlined adequately.

In response to the verdict of non compliance, Cosgrave Nursing Consultancy Limited said all discrepancies in care and planning were corrected on the day of the inspection.

Assurances were also made that nurses would be guided to review and update assessments and care plans for residents, and that training for all nurses in care planning and assessment would be promptly completed.
