Hopes Joined Up Approach To Education In Ennis Will Enhance School Leavers Lives

It’s hoped a joined-up approach to post Leaving Cert education in Ennis will enhance the quality of life of those choosing to stay living in Clare.

Limerick Institute of Technology and the Ennis College of Further Education have signed an agreement which will see the college as a preferred link provider for LIT courses at its new Ennis campus.

It will allow students to move into third level education without going through the CAO process.

Today’s agreement aims to provide a seamless transition for ECFE graduates who wish to pursue further studies, by linking them up to the local LIT courses.

It forms part of LIT’s overall expansion here, with the opening of a new dedicated campus on Bindon Street in Ennis from September.

LIT President Vincent Cunnane says it’ll be a major benefit to school-leavers staying in Clare for their further education.

The Ennis College of Further Education offers a range of courses including in accounting, early childhood care and education, nursing studies, community health and business.

On completing those courses, they’ll be able to move on to similar or different courses with LIT, without having to go through the CAO process.

Director Marie O’Callaghan says this new arrangement will be particularly beneficial to students who otherwise might not have had the option to move on to third level education.

The partnership has strengthened what’s become known as the Education Quarter in Ennis.

ECFE Principal, Brian O’Donoghue says the agreement changes the face of education in the county town.
