Small levels of growth have been recorded in the number of planning permissions granted by Clare County Council last year.

There are some signs that more housing estates are set to be built here, however.

Last year saw planning permission granted for over 12,500 homes, an 87.9% year-on-year increase.

The number of houses which received the green light rose significantly, and there was a huge 232% increase in the number of planning permissions granted for apartments.

For the first time, there were more planning approvals for apartments than houses, though that’s naturally driven in large urban areas.

In Clare, last year paints a different picture, with much lower levels of growth here.

The green light was given for 441 new homes, up by 13 on the year before.

Bigger growth was recorded for housing estates, versus one-off houses.

The number of apartments approved grew from 9 to 33.
